Earth is the third planet in our Solar System. Earth was formed from swirling gas and dust approximately 4.5 Billion Years ago. Earth is the only planet to harbor life on it. In our Solar system, Earth is the only planet that has liquid water on its surface. Only about one fourth of the earth’s surface is land, the rest is water.

Earth has a thick atmosphere. It is composed of 78.08 % Nitrogen, 20.95 % Oxygen, 0.93 % Argon, and the rest 0.04 percent consists of many greenhouse gasses like Carbon-Dioxide, Methane, Nitrous Oxide and Ozone.

The inner structure of the earth, that is excluding the atmosphere and oceans consists of 3 major layers. They are - the Core, the Mantle, and the Crust. All these layers have further detailed divisions depending upon few characteristics.

The Earth’s crust, that is the outermost solid layer, is made up of gigantic plates called tectonic plates. These plates keep moving, causing natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis(due to earthquakes in the oceans). The Crust is composed of several minerals and rocks.

The Earth has 7 Continents - Asia, Europe, North America, South America, Africa, Oceania, Antarctica. The planet also has 5 oceans - Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Arctic, and the Southern ocean.
